How To Get Rid Of Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees can be a major issue around your home. They can dig into the wood of your home and lead to holes in just about every piece of wood around your house. That beautiful arbor you built may be housing carpenter bees, or your child's play set you took hours to build may be housing these bees as well. They may not be harmful to humans, although they will sting if they are provoked or they feel threatened. Carpenter bees are more of a nuisance than anything and can be tricky to get rid of them. Read on for tips on how to get rid of these pests.

Find Their Homes

Take a good look around your home to see where these carpenter bees have been drilling themselves into. If you see a lot of holes, this may be where they are frequenting most often. You may have just one, or you could have a lot of them. These bees look like big, oversized bees, and one of the main differences between these and other types of bees are their black bodies and yellow heads. They are fuzzy just like a bumble bee. Once you find the bees and their home, you can set traps.

Set Traps For These Pests

You can set a trap for these pests that lures them in, but doesn't let them out. Use a piece of wood with a hole drilled into it at an angle towards the middle of the wood, then drill another hole going down into a mason jar that you attach to the base of the wood. It will lure the carpenter bees in, but they won't be able to get out. When you have bees in the jar, you unscrew the jar and empty it's contents. You can also purchase traps such as these at your local hardware store or on-line. You can lure these pests and then empty them while they are still alive, although they will find their way back to your home and will again damage your property.

These pests can cause a lot of damage to your home. If you have them at your home, and they have begun to drill through the wood around your house, you need to take action before they do to much damage. Call a pest control company to help you get rid of these pests for you to prevent any further damage to your house.
